On 13 May 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., workshops for Computer Science students entitled “Research on the Accessibility and Usability of the City of Lublin Website and the Development of Conclusions and Recommendations for Its Improvement” were held in room 201 at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science of Lublin University of Technology.
The workshops were conducted by Prof. Sergio Luján-Mora from the University of Alicante as part of the Visiting Professors in Lublin program. The event was organized on behalf of the Department of Computer Science by: Dr Eng. Małgorzata Plechawska-Wójcik (project coordinator), Dr Eng. Marek Miłosz, Associate Professor, Dr Mariusz Dzieńkowski, MSc Eng. Karol Łazaruk, and MSc Eng. Piotr Tokarski.
The workshops consisted of two parts. In the first part, Prof. Sergio Luján-Mora delivered a lecture devoted to digital accessibility. He discussed the needs of users with disabilities, for whom website accessibility is essential for accessing digital services. He also presented the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and best practices related to publishing accessible digital content, including texts, graphics, multimedia, and documents.
The second part focused on practical activities. The lecturer introduced the research problem and presented tools used for website accessibility audits, including Google Lighthouse, WAVE, and IBM Equal Access Accessibility Checker.
Next, the students worked in three-person teams. Each of the 22 groups was assigned a selected subpage of the https://lublin.eu website for analysis. The students carried out an audit using automated tools, and the issues detected were then verified manually and documented in reports submitted to the organisers at the end of the classes.
Based on the audit results, a report containing conclusions and recommendations for improving the digital accessibility of the City of Lublin website will be prepared. The document will be submitted to the city authorities as a form of expert audit. The initiative had both scientific and practical dimensions, supporting the improvement of digital service quality in public administration.
The event is carried out with the financial support of The City of Lublin, as part of the Visiting Professors in Lublin Program.
