Visit of scientists from Egypt and Cyprus to the 3D Lab of the Department of Computer Science

On December 13, 2023, the Department of Computer Science hosted scientists from Egypt and Cyprus. The group was hosted at the department’s Lab3D science laboratory.

The guest group included the following:

  • Prof. Dr. Hanan Gouda – the Dean of the Arab Institute for Leadership Development at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria, ex vice minister of education of Egypt
  • Prof. Dr. Eiman Negm – the Vice-dean for Master Courses at the Arab Institute for Leadership Development at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria
  • Dr. Hanya Riad – senior teacher assistant at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport in Alexandria
  • Dr. Stelios Christophides – ex inspector of Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprus for higher institutions
  • Dr. Kostantinos Papadamou, CEO, Trinomial Technologies Ltd. Cyprus

A group of scientists from Egypt and Cyprus carried out the project: Internationalization of digital competence teaching system based on Polish research. The coordinator of the project is: ECCC Foundation of Lublin.

Prof. Jerzy Montusiewicz and Marek Milosz presented the history of Lab3D and an overview of the lab’s work to date. Prof. Milosz presented in detail the work and its results carried out during the project “3D Digital Silk Road” – digitizing the monuments of the Silk Road in Uzbekistan (https://cs.pollub.pl/projects/3d-digital-silk-road-digitalizacja-zabytkow-jedwabnego-szlaku-w-uzbekistanie/).

Dr. Jacek Kęsik, Eng. presented methods of 3D scanning of objects using structured light and laser scanning of large objects, as well as 3D printing.

Marcin Badurowicz, Ph.D., and Stanislaw Skulimowski, M.Sc., presented the practical use of VR and AR technologies using an example of a cultural heritage site from Uzbekistan (the mausoleum of the prophet Pachlavi of Chiwa, Uzbekistan) and virtual exhibitions.
