Cultural Legacy Week of Uzbekistan

“Cultural Legacy Week of Uzbekistan” was held in Uzbekistan from September 13-20, 2021. It consisted of many different events (exhibitions, congresses, forums, meetings and festivals) in Tashkent, Khiva and Nukus. Prof. Marek Miłosz was invited to participate in the Week by the organizers.

At the 5th International Congress “The Cultural Legacy of Uzbekistan: the Foundation of a New Renaissance”, Prof. Marek Miłosz presented the achievements of the Department of Computer Science by presenting a paper:

Marek Miłosz, Jerzy Montusiewicz, Jacek Kęsik, Elżbieta Miłosz, Rahim Kayumov: 3D Information Techniques in Research, Restoration and Popularisation of Uzbekistan’s Cultural Heritage – Case Studies from the Polish-Uzbek Cooperation.

The paper presented four achievements Department of Computer Science:

  1. study of the geometry of the inner Dome of the Golden Mosque of the Tillya-Kori Madrasah,
  2. preparation of the temple in scale1:1 and determination of ceramic tile colour surface areas of mosaic from the medieval Sher-Dor Madrasah (famous tigers from Samarkand),
  3. creation of a virtual museum of the archaeological artefacts from Afrasiyab city with the use of VR,
  4. development of the Internet portal “3D Digital Silk Road” popularizing the cultural heritage of Central Asia.

A film prepared under the direction of Prof. Jerzy Montusiewicz was also used in the presentation. In less than 4 minutes, the film presents a 5-year period of cooperation between IT specialists from Lublin University of Technology and museologists from Uzbekistan. Extensive fragments of this film were also presented during the plenary session of the Congress.
